Ulrika Jonsson has candidly discussed how she has previously dated women – as she responded to Love Island star Amber Gill’s recent Tweet that said she had ‘switched teams’.
The Swedish-British television presenter and model, 54, explained in her latest Sun column why she has had same-sex hookups after reality star Amber, 24, said that ‘men make her feel ill’.
Ulrika also talked about how there is now a ‘trend’ of women saying they want to ‘switch teams’ after bad experiences or a ‘disenchantment’ with men.
Open: Ulrika Jonsson has candidly discussed how she has previously dated women – as she responded to Love Island star Amber Gill’s recent Tweet that said she had ‘switched teams’
Last week former Love Island winner Amber was live Tweeting an episode of the current series when she declared to her followers that ‘switching teams was the best decision I made in my life’.
Amber then added: ‘Watching men makes me feel ill. I couldn’t put myself through it again.’
However she later went on to say she was not ready to discuss her sexuality while she was still single, adding: ‘When I’m ready to say what I want to say, then I will.’
Responding, Ulrika wrote in her column: ‘I can’t help but put myself in gay women’s shoes and wonder if I wouldn’t feel a tad insulted by straight women effectively saying that they are fed up with men so they’re going to try the second best option.

I speak to my lesbian friends and they feel this kind of behavior and change of approach is disingenuous and disparaging towards them.
‘It is lazy because it comes across as some kind of fair-weather attitude — women get fed up with men, so they’ll give a gay woman a try.’
The Gladiators star made it clear that she wasn’t trying to suggest Amber is not gay, but after she asked not to be ‘put in a box’, Ulrika asked: ‘what is it?’.
Ulrika explained that she has ‘had a few dalliances with women in the past.’
Reaction: Earlier this week Amber said that watching the men on Love Island ‘made her feel ill’, after all the men but Luca Bish made moves on the new arrivals in the main villa
In a series of tweets, Amber wrote: ‘Switching teams was the best decision I made in my life’
She added that she never pursued another woman but that ‘things just happened’ due to ‘sexual desire’.
The star added that she has never considered a relationship with another woman purely ‘based on my despair of men’ which she suggested some women may now be doing.
It comes after earlier this week Amber addressed her sexuality for the first time, since tweeting out that she had sworn off men.
She had declared that ‘switching teams’ was the best decision she has ever made as she insisted she could not ‘go through it again’ with a man.

She was commenting on the antics of the male contestants on this year’s show after the girls were shipped off to Casa Amor.

Now she has broken her silence about the tweets, admitting she got ‘anxiety’ over them and asked fans not to ‘put her in a box’.
She added that she did not want to say anything until she was ‘ready’ and in a relationship.
Speaking on Johnny Seifert’s podcast Secure The Insecure in a clip obtained by The Sun, Amber said: ‘I’ll say what I want to say when I’m ready. There’s no need to speculate, we can all see what I’m saying.
When I’m ready to say what I want to say, then I will. I don’t feel like I want to say anything while I’m single.’
She went on: ‘All this speculation makes it harder for people to want to say how they really feel and talk about their sexuality. Me putting out that tweet, I got anxiety last night… I was only trying to make a light-hearted joke about Love Island.’
In the series of tweets in question, Amber wrote: ‘Switching teams was the best decision I made in my life.
Amber also responded to a follower who replied to her saying: ‘Me and my gf were saying just yesterday that we predict you’ll end up settling down with a woman’

Amber, who won Love Island in 2018, previously suggested that she was open to dating women after admitting that she was attracted to them.
In July last year, one of her fans asked her: ‘Bestie, I’m afraid to ask you this,’ with a series of fruit emojis, hinting towards her being a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Throwback: It was revealed in January that Amber was back with her criminal ex Rory Colhoun after the couple secretly rekindled their romance in Dubai (pictured together in 2020)
Amber replied to the tweet, saying: ‘Sometimes’.
At the National Television Awards several days later, she referenced the tweet and said ‘the fruit emojis mean the fruit emojis, what can I say? Some days I might be, some days I might not’, she told the Daily Star.
Amber has not publicly revealed that she is currently dating anyone. Amber admitted during a new interview with heat magazine this week that she thinks being on Love Island ‘hindered’ her love life.
She said: ‘It’s kind of hard to navigate dating now. I’m a bit like, ‘what do you mean we’re not standing around the fire pt choosing who to couple up with?’
I’ve got to do real life dating and it’s difficult. I’m not mad about it, because I’ve had the most amazing experiences off the back of the show.’
It was revealed by MailOnline in January that Amber was back with her criminal ex-boyfriend Rory Colhoun after the couple secretly rekindled their romance in Dubai.
She was pictured enjoying an intimate dinner with Rory at Opa Dubai restaurant at the time – after admitting reports that she was dating footballer Jack Grealish, 26, which both denied, had ‘ruined’ her current relationship.
Last year, Amber dumped Rory after being told by MailOnline that he was jailed for four years in 2017 for beating up two doormen, leaving one in hospital.
A source close to the couple confirmed that Amber had relocated to Dubai and was living with her boyfriend Rory, as they took their relationship to the next level.
An insider revealed: ‘Amber started dating Rory again last year after accepting his past. They talked about everything that happened when Rory was younger and have moved forward together as a couple.
‘Amber has taken a big step by relocating to Dubai, but she loves the place, and it was important for herself and Rory to have a fresh start where not everybody knows who they are.’
In November, Amber was linked to Manchester City’s £100m man Jack Grealish. Reports of the relationship were denied.
The reality star lashed out at trolls in light of the claims, insisting she couldn’t have a healthy relationship while her fans continued to speculate about her love life.
She said: ‘Any relationships that I’ve got going on or any dating get ruined immediately by people going ‘This is who she’s dating now’ and I’m like ‘Hold on, am I?’
Amber won Love Island in 2019 with Irishman Greg O’Shea, 27, but the pair split just five weeks after sharing the £50K cash prize.
The reality star has been linked to several love interests since finding fame.
In early 2020, she was linked to England footballer Fikayo Tomori, 24, after the pair flirted on Instagram, and she was forced to deny reports that she was dating her personal trainer Jon Hosking, 29, last December.
Amber has previously said that men are often ‘intimidated’ by her strength and independence, but that has helped her settle with the right partner.
She said: ‘… But I like that, I think it’s a good thing, because you weed out the ones you don’t want anyway.
‘If I am going to get with somebody then they need to be very confident and sure within themselves so it just means that the ones that are intimidated, they get found out quite quickly and I don’t waste my time.’
