The 51-year-old performer, who will also host the star-studded show, made quite the impression at the annual event, to which she wore a particularly eye-catching outfit.

Although she was not put up for any distinctions this year, the Empire actress has been honored by the media company during their awards show on numerous occasions in the past.

In a recent interview, Taraji spoke about the importance of the BET Awards, and how they have championed her throughout her career.

‘No matter how big I get in my career, no matter how high my star may rise, I will never forget my community,’ she told Essence, talking about the ceremony.

‘The community is who told Hollywood, “Hey, pay attention to her.”‘

Taraji also told Variety how this year’s show will focus on celebrating Hollywood’s Black men, after saluting trailblazing Black women last year.

‘For me, it’s all about balance,’ Taraji explained. ‘We shone a light on the incredible Black women, and this year we need to uplift our men.’

That will including honoring Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs with the BET Lifetime Achievement Award.

‘He’s getting his flowers,’ she joked. ‘I thought it would be a great opportunity to lift him up and to lift up all those men that he’s inspired and those who have inspired him.’
