If you’re getting tired of that one movie your toddler keeps insisting on watching over and over, it’s time to turn something new on. There are tons of fun, family-friendly films releasing this year that will catch your toddler’s interest (and maybe even your own). If you’re looking for something new to watch with your tot, then be sure to give one of these titles a try.
10 Hotel Transylvania: Transformania
This movie franchise may be about vampires and monsters, but there’s nothing scary about Hotel Transylvania. This is the fourth edition of the franchise, which features the voice work from actors like Selena Gomez and Adam Sandler. It was originally supposed to come out at Halloween but was briefly delayed.
You’ll find the movie on Amazon Prime. Don’t forget to watch the first three movies with your toddler, so they get the full Transylvania experience.
9 The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild
Another franchise that got a new installment this year is Ice Age. This movie takes a departure from the franchise’s regular rotation of characters to follow the weasel Buck Wild. Partnering up with possums Crash and Eddie, the team does their best to prevent dinosaurs from getting the upper hand.
The film was released earlier in the year in January and is now available for viewing on Disney +.
8 Turning Red
One of the most highly anticipated children’s movies of the year is this animated gem from Pixar. Being a teenager is tough, but it’s even harder when you turn into a giant red panda whenever excited or emotional, as is what happens to 13-year-old Mei Lee in the flick. People of all ages have gushed over this movie, so you won’t mind watching it with your toddler.
Available as of this March, you can view Turning Red on Disney +.
7 Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
The Shrek films may be completed (for now), but one of the franchise’s favorite characters is still getting screen time – Puss in Boots. The sassy cat returns to the big screen in Puss in Boots; The Last Wish. The film boasts an impressive voice acting cast, with talents like Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, and Florence Pugh.
The movie will be released in December, so you can catch it in theaters before it hits a streaming platform.
Many animated Disney films have been re-made in live-action versions in recent years, and Pinocchio is the latest film to get a facelift. The movie will follow the classic story of a puppet who must prove himself worthy of being a real boy. The only problem is his affinity for lying. However, this is a good opportunity to explain to toddlers what lying is and why it’s wrong.
Pinocchio is set to be released in theaters this coming November, though it’ll likely be available on Disney + on or around the same time.
5 Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers
Chip and Dale are classic Disney characters that have been a part of the brand since 1943. However, the talking chipmunk brothers have gotten little screen time, until now. Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers is one of Disney’s newest movies and follows the chipmunks as they navigate the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. But when one of their former cast mates goes missing, they must work together to solve the case.
This cute movie released in May and is available on Disney +.
4 Cheaper By the Dozen
The Cheaper by the Dozen franchise was a hit in the early 2000s, so it’s not surprising that it’s been re-made with an entirely new cast. It follows the same idea – a blended family with 10 kids gets into a lot of chaos. Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff lead the cast as the parents in over their head.
Released in March, you can find this laugh-inducing comedy on Disney + in the family-friendly section.
3 Better Nate Than Ever
If your toddler loves music (especially singing), then turn on Better Nate Than Ever. This heartwarming movie follows the tale of a seventh grader with the big dream of being a Broadway star – and it’s within his grasp after he learned about an open audition in New York. This sweet film reminds viewers to chase their dreams, which is a good message for toddlers and parents alike.
This film was released in April and is currently available to watch on Disney +.
You can’t go wrong with an animated film about a dog, so Marmaduke is an easy choice. Pete Davidson lends his voice to the titular character – a lovable Great Dane with a never-ending appetite. However, he may have found the solution in the world’s best dog trainer.
This show is a must for any toddler obsessed with dogs. It was released this month and is available on Netflix.
1 Minions: Rise of Gru
Minions were all the rage for a few short years, and even though you may not easily find a minions-themed shirt in stores anymore, the films continue to be a hit with children. The franchise is getting a new installment with the release of Minions: Rise of Gru, which follows Gru’s rise as a villain in the 1970s.
Although the film was originally scheduled to be released in 2020, it appears this will finally be its year, as it’s scheduled to debut on July 1st.
