Janine was responsible for the crash, smashing the vehicle into a tree, but the soap villain poured a bottle of alcohol on the seat to make it seem as if Linda had been driving while over the limit amid her alcohol issues.

Another driver pulled over to check on the pair after the smash, but, after framing Linda, Janine fled the scene.

Linda was deemed as ‘stable’ after waking up from her coma, but the Carters were told that she could permanently suffer from memory loss.

‘Linda is stable. However, the trauma to the brain is worse than we thought. There’s no way of knowing what state she’ll be in until she comes around. She might not remember the crash, or the hours, days, months even leading up to it,’ the doctor said.

I don’t mean to alarm you – but you need to prepare yourself, she may no longer be the Linda you know. There isn’t anything I can tell you at the moment, I’m sorry, but I’ll keep you informed. You may be better off waiting for news at home.’

Linda’s family were distraught, believing Linda had gotten behind the wheel of the car after drinking, unaware it was in fact Janine who had been driving.

It remains to be seen if Linda will recall enough of the incident to remember that it was in fact Janine who is responsible for the accident.

Janine was recently furious with Mick after he supported his estranged wife Linda in meetings with the social worker as she tried to prove she was fit enough to look after their daughter Annie again following the accident.

Linda also tried to convince Mick that she was well enough to return to work behind the bar at the Queen Vic, prompting Danny to agree with some misgivings.

The situation left Janine seething as she continued to set her sights on the pub landlord.

It was announced in January that Danny would be leaving his role of Mick after nine years on the soap.

Meanwhile, Shane Richie is set to reprise his role as Alfie Moon in EastEnders.

The 58-year-old actor’s alter-ego first joined the soap in 2002 and made his last appearance in Walford in 2019, and Shane can’t wait to return to the soap.

He said: ‘It’s an absolute honor and privilege to be asked back to my TV home of Albert Square.

I’m looking forward to catching up with some old castmates and meeting some new ones.

‘The new executive producer, Chris Clenshaw, has been instrumental in wanting to bring Alfie Moon back with some wonderful storylines… and who am I to say no?! I can’t wait.’

Chris added: ‘Shane Richie created one of the most iconic, lovable and memorable characters in soap, and to welcome him back to Walford is an absolute pleasure.

A lot’s happened since Alfie’s been away from the Square, but wherever his floral shirts go you can expect fun, frolics and, of course, the odd porky-pie. We’re over the moon to have him home.’

And Shane’s return is set to be good news for co-star Jessie Wallace, as Alfie’s on/off relationship with Jessie’s Kat Slater is one of EastEnders most iconic partnerships.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ‘It secures the future of Jessie as Kat, because together they deliver one of EastEnders most captivating love stories.

‘Having them on the cast is seen as a dynamite combination that might get more diehard fans tuning in again.

‘Losing Jessie would have been a disaster for producers who are pinning a lot on new storylines they’re going to be at the center of.’
