Fans are impatiently waiting for the third season of Apple TV Plus’ critically-acclaimed series Ted Lasso, with writer Brett Goldstein confirming it will be the show’s last.
‘We are writing it like that. It was planned as three [seasons]’he said, before joking,’ Spoiler alert – everyone dies. ‘
Jason has said on many occasions that he and co-creators Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly had planned just a three-season arc for the series.
The show has one of the most unorthodox origin stories, with Jason first portraying Lasso in a series of commercials for NBC Sports, promoting their coverage of the Premier League in 2013.
Lawrence, creator of hit shows like Scrubs and Cougar Town, was brought in to help develop the show in 2017 and the show was picked up by Apple TV Plus in 2019.
The show earned critical acclaim upon its debut in the summer of 2020, following Sudeikis’ title character as he’s brought over as an American college football coach to coach the Premiere League team AFC Richmond… despite having no experience coaching soccer.

Despite his lack of experience (and success), his positive mentality wins ultimately wins over the hearts of the fans, his players and team owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham).
‘The nice part of the show, is about people trying to be better. And that’s unusual, ‘Brett said.
‘Our public discourse [on social media] is terrible. It is now normal for people to be horrible to each other, ‘he added.
‘Our show shouldn’t be as refreshing as it is – that says more about the world it was brought into. I’ve got far more stories about people being lovely than about people being a nightmare, ’Brett continued.
‘I can’t speak for fans. But I can speak about how it has shaped us. Ted is our best selves – he tries to bring out our best selves, ‘he stated.
Brett’s Roy Kent starts the series as AFC Richmond’s captain, though his best days are behind him as he starts to realize his playing days are coming to an end.
He retires from playing at the end of the first season, and becomes a coach for AFC Richmond in the show’s second season.
The actor also signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, where he’s developing a new series for Apple TV Plus called Shrinking starring Jason Segel, who plays a therapist that starts breaking the rules and telling patients what he thinks.
