Breastfeeding is a journey that everyone decides to go on in their own time. Some women choose not to breastfeed, or they can’t, and they make the switch to formula. However, some women also want to breastfeed their babies. They may believe it is easier, cheaper and the best choice for them and their family, but they learn very quickly that it is not easy. Breastfeeding can be a struggle for a lot of moms out there, and it is vital that they get the support they need to reach their goals.
Moms may not feel comfortable opening up about their breastfeeding struggles. They may feel like no one is listening as no one cares, or that they are traveling this road on their own. However, ironically, when we don’t share our stories and journeys, it adds to women feeling like they are alone and that there is no support out there.
Whether we like it or not, celebrities have a huge platform to share their stories. When they open up about struggles they are facing, it can help normalize a topic, help women feel like they are not alone, and show us that they really are just like us.
There have been a lot of celebrity moms that have opened up on their struggles to breastfeed, and we thought we would highlight some here.
Hilary Duff – Felt Like A “Failure”
Hilary Duff is one of the more popular celebrity moms, and that is because she can be quite relatable. She seems humble and down-to-earth, and according to What to Expect, she reached out to the world about her breastfeeding struggles.
Hilary had opened up about having a low-milk supply and that it led her to feel sad and frustrated, and that she also felt like a “failure.” This is a common sentiment that is spoken by moms who struggle to breastfeed. This also led Hilary to have to pump, and she also spoke about how that is not easy, especially when you are at work.
However, Hilary has always said that moms are rock stars and that they should never feel like they are a failure because they are the exact opposite.
Jessica Alba – Back To Work Struggles
Jessica Alba is another relatable mom, and she was faced with a very common breastfeeding situation that caused her some heartache. She stated that she had to return to work, so while she was able to breastfeed, she was not able to breastfeed for as long as she wanted to. She said that she wanted to keep going, but she just couldn’t due to her work schedule.
However, she also said that she is proud of what she has been able to do and that she is also proud of every other mom who may be in similar situations.
Adele – Too Much Pressure
Adele not only spoke about her struggles to breastfeed, but she also took a very strong stance against anyone who puts pressure on a breastfeeding mom. According to Romper, Adele spoke about the pressure placed on women to breastfeed their babies, despite it not being easy.
She said that it was ridiculous and that anyone who puts pressure on mothers “can go f *** themselves.” She said that she only was able to go about 9 weeks, and she also spoke about how this pressure can make women go into postpartum depression and while women should breastfeed if they want to and are able to, there is nothing wrong with formula.
Kim Kardashian – Sibling Rivalry
Kim Kardashian is another celeb mom who spoke about a really relatable breastfeeding issue, and that is when you are trying to nurse a baby, but you have older children who are fighting for your attention. She said that when she was breastfeeding her second child, Saint, her first child struggled with it. She said that North really did not like it when she breastfed and that she would lay on her mom’s lap so that Saint could not easily be at the breast.
This is a common issue that a lot of parents go through when they bring a second baby home, and it can add even more challenges to a challenging experience.
Chrissy Teigen – Felt Like A Literal Cow
Chrissy Teigen has always been either loved or hated, and part of that is because she is blunt and not afraid to say what she is thinking. According to Buzzfeed, she opened up about how time-consuming breastfeeding can be. She said that moms can breastfeed for like 10 hours a day and while it is very sweet, it can make you feel like you are just a cow all day, and that can be hard on anyone.
Mila Kunis – Breastfeeding In Public
Mila Kunis shared her experiences with breastfeeding in public, which is another issue that a lot of moms struggle with. She stated that when she was breastfeeding her baby in public, she would often get looks like she was doing something “shameful.” She could not believe it, because she believed that people did that because they were adding something “sexual” to the act when she was just trying to feed her baby. This speaks to what a lot of women go through, and why some struggle with feeding in public.
