State Senate Candidate Thom Collier Supports Religious Kooks that Abuse Children

Most people in Knox County and Ohio are familiar with the ongoing John Freshwater saga, the story of the middle school science teacher who was fired for teaching creationism and burning students in his classroom.  In fact, here's a pretty good picture of the arm of the young man of which Freshwater burned a cross:

There is little doubt that John Freshwater, and his supporters are religious kooks, in my opinion.  In fact, Freshwater has gone as far as saying that Catholics are not Christians.

His primary supporter is David Daubenmire, a former football coach that was fired for praying with his players.  Daubenmire now runs Pass the Salt Ministries and Minutemen United.  The ministry appears to spend most of its time harassing liberal churches and gays.

Most Ohioans know all about this stuff.  But most Ohioans, and most voters, are unaware of the close ties of GOP State Senate Candidate Thom Collier and his campaign manager, Tyler Fehrman, to John Freshwater.  But they are there if you just take a look.

Tyler Fehrman is a long time public supporter of John Freshwater. In fact, Tyler is one of only 253 members of the Facebook I support John Freshwater site.   Tyler is also Thom Collier's campaign manager former campaign manager and volunteer, and a member of the Knox County Republican Central Committee.

State Senate Candidate Thom Collier is also a longtime public supporter of John Freshwater.  In fact, Collier helped started a group called the Community Council for Free Expression that raises money for John Freshwater's legal defense.

But Collier has gone even further.  Along with the Minutemen and other assorted cranks, Collier spoke publicly at a rally in favor of John Freshwater.  Here's what Thom Collier had to say:

Because I believe when the smoke clears, the investigations are complete, we will still have one major question that lingers before us in the community and as a society. Can a teacher have a Bible, or a Koran for that matter, on the corner of their desk? And for the record, yes, I have a Bible on the corner of my desk in the (Ohio) State House. He raised his Bible in his right hand, like Charlton Heston did his rifle at the NRA convention, and said, Out of my cold dead hands.

Thom Collier still maintains that this case is about a teacher placing a bible on his desk.  It is not.

It is about a teacher that physically assaulted student after student in the name of his crazy religion and his warped view of science.

It is about his crazy supporters that ran one of these students and his family out of town through threats and intimidation.

And most importantly, it is about a former State Representative, and current State Senate Candidate named Thom Collier, who associates closely with and supports the efforts of these radical, intolerant groups and individuals.

Thom Collier needs to be called on the carpet and confronted about his connections.  And it needs to be done today.
