Space's
Vote-Switch Leads to Congressional Investigation Stolen vote controversy sparked by Space’s
last minute vote switch to give illegal immigrants taxpayer-funded benefits is now under investigation
Washington– Zack Space hoped that nobody was watching when Democrats stole a
vote in the dead of night on August 2nd. A motion to bar illegal
immigrants from receiving taxpayer-funded benefits had initially passed, but
Democrats, with the help of Space, re-opened the vote to kill it. list.nrcc.org/t/1735334/9684005/349/0/

Roll Call 814)
Hoping
that nobody was watching them, Space, along with Democrats Nick Lampson (TX),
Harry Mitchell (AZ), Kirsten Gillibrand (NY) and Jerry McNerney (CA-11), were
all caught voting against the measure after initially supporting it, after the
vote had been gaveled. Now, those actions are the subject of an extraordinary
Congressional investigation.
“The floor confusion arose when, with the
tally tied at 214-214, two politically vulnerable Democrats, Nick Lampson of
Texas and Harry E. Mitchell of Arizona, went to the well of the chamber to
switch their votes to “no.” The buddy system would prevent Democrats who
voted “no” from being targeted as the deciding vote in future campaign ads…”
“Within a minute or so, a flurry of post-gavel vote switches by Reps. Zack
Space of Ohio, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Jerry McNerney of
California — resulted in an official outcome of 212-216.” (CQ,
8/3/07)
As today’s Washington Times
reported, the strong-arm tactics used by Democrat leaders and the willingness
of Democrats like Space to circumvent the democratic process is now under
investigation:
“Congress
has until Sept. 30 to deliver an interim report before the full House and
until Sept. 15 next year to complete its investigation. The investigative
panel is expected to have full subpoena power.”
“House Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio
is expected today to call for the first investigative meeting to be held
"right away" during a press conference after his party's weekly
caucus meeting.” (Washington
Times, 9/5/07)
As the Washington Post pointed out, the stolen
vote investigation is “extraordinary” and predicated on an incident that
appears to be unprecedented.
“The
agreement to form a special committee was extraordinary. Such powerful
investigative committees are usually reserved for issues such as the
Watergate scandal and the funneling of profits from Iranian arms sales to the
Nicaraguan contras in the 1980s.”
“‘I don't know when something like this has happened before,’ said House
deputy historian Fred W. Beuttler. He called the decision ‘incredible.’” (Washington
Post, 8/4/07)
Democrats
had promised to run the “the most honest, most open
and most ethical Congress in history.” The clear-cut evidence proves otherwise.
