Why Not Ohio Rail?
Ok, call me a sell out, let me know that I have abandoned my conservative principles. Go ahead, fire away. Email me at scott@pullinsreport.com.
But just the same, I don't understand why Ohio doesn't have high speed rail. Can we at least study the idea?
My friends over at the Buckeye Institute threw hot water on a plan to fund a study for the Ohio Hub this week. Here's what they said:
Further, ODOT’s Ohio Rail Development Commission will receive a 74 percent increase to fund a seven million dollar study evaluating the value of the Ohio Hub Plan. The Hub Plan involves developing a high speed passenger railway system that connects Ohio’s major cities to other markets like Chicago and Pittsburgh.
Sounds like a good idea to me, I think its faster to jog to Chicago, Pittsburgh, and especially DC from Ohio than it is to fly now. Heck, the last few times I've traveled to DC, I've driven.
If the problem is funding it out of Ohio's General Fund, what about the plan to lease the turnpike and use the proceeds to improve transportation?
Surely, some pocket change that is raised from the billions from that plan could study Ohio high speed rail. Couldn't it?
Let me know what you think. Is the Buckeye Institute right and this study is a waste of taxpayer dollars? Or, should Ohio study the feasibility of implementing high speed rail? Post your comments here at The Pullins Report and let me know what you think.

I think spending $7 million dollars to "study" something is absurd. I think Yoda said it best, "Do or do not. There is no try." If the money is there, I say build it. But if it isn't, and it isn't, I don't think it's worth the cashola to "study" it...
Now, "doing it" is a whole different thing...
