Could Dann Move Save Taxpayers?

Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann announced today that he is opening a new state office in downtown Youngstown.  Read the presser here.

I have long been a proponent of spreading state jobs and offices around to other counties, especially economically distressed counties like Mahoning.  I believed when I ran the Ohio Taxpayers Association that Ohio taxpayers could actually benefit, while saving money from moving offices out of pricy downtown Columbus.

I'm thinking that office rents are probably a little less in downtown Youngstown, Toledo, Mansfield, and other smaller cities around the state.  In this case the AG is moving into the long abandoned former Phar Mor building.  At the same time, housing prices, parking prices, lunch prices, day care prices, and so on are probably much cheaper in the area for the effected employees.

Here's hoping that this proposal will help save taxpayer dollars, while giving a much needed economic shot in the arm to distressed communities like Youngstown!  Thank you.
